That studio i blogged about earlier this week didn't really work out. I took a tour, and the interior just didn't match the exterior in charm, the price was higher than advertised, no sinks in the studios, and the part that really bummed me out: it's not really a building for creatives as advertised -- almost all the suites were taken up by medical practices. What I originally envisioned being a lively artists studio is actually a 'quiet' and professional building, which is great if you're serving up acupuncture, but if you're trying to break out of the monotony of working at home & the loneliness of a lack of art community, it's just not what i was looking for. it makes me question whether i should be getting a studio at all, or if I will ever find something like what I'm looking for in San Diego.
anyway, in other news: this FRIDAY (wait, that's today): the Enormous Tiny Art show opens in LA at the Living Room (hosted by Nahcotta): here's a link to my work There is work from over 25 artists in the show.
3531 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026
and, next Friday, June 13th, I'm in the group show at Art Star in Philadelphia, PA titled "Draw 4" (a show of drawings) it's my first show at Art Star!
623 N. 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19123
I'm honored to be shown by both galleries (Nahcotta [their first west coast show!] and Art Star) I think they both represent some of the best artists making work today, always seeking new energy + emerging artwork to show. I am proud to own work purchased from both galleries in the past, and really am humbled that they both asked me to show.

Thank you so so so so so so so much to everyone who came out for the Wild Life opening last night. i apologize if anyone was there to meet me earlier in the show, there was a major gallery catastrophe and I missed the first two hours of my own show while i tried to fix it. it got fixed, sort of. but how cruel to work for months on something that will only last a few hours and to miss half of it. I want to go into what happened but it'll probably just make me upset again and i want to put it behind me.
anyway, the haikus people wrote were pretty amazing. i think Giant Robot plans to award prizes to winners at the end of the show run (so, through September 17th) but i already had a clear winner. I'll give you a hint -- it was based on painting #M85 "The Switch" featuring a raccoon.
I'm so glad to be home. I feel all torn up from the highs and lows of the opening, and the three days spent on ladders while handpainting the mural on the walls of GR2. while i love what happened with the show, the installation and the amazing reception and audience that showed their support on saturday, i'm ready for some serious R&R.
oh, how i need it.

chances are, if you've been to my house, over the last few months, you've seen hundreds of paintings in progress laid out on every horizontal surface available. but, chances also are, if you're reading this, you probably have not been to my house.
so if you want to see the paintings, you'll have to meet me in LA on august 16th at giant robot for my solo art show titled "The Wild Life" 2062 sawtelle blvd, you heard it here first.

actually, it's possible you didn't hear it here first, since i've mentioned it a few times on my mailing list + site blog, but whatever.

so, it's the last day to check out musical chairsi kinda wish i had a guestbook at that show. as far as i experienced, the only people who ever saw it were the ones who came during the few hrs of the opening reception in the pouring rain. or better yet, i could get a t-shirt that everyone who attends my art show can sign during the month and then i'd wear it all around town forever more. that would be VERY AWESOME.
i'm lacking motivation to do anything today. incidentally, there is a lot to be done.
