menders

speaking of things in my life that need/needed mending:

only a few miniature paintings came back to me after my solo show in August -- and looking at them, they just didn't seem to work anymore outside the context of the art show. so i decided to mend them. this is the 'before' shot of all 6.

menders: before

and here's the afters:

menders: after #1
menders: after #2 + #3
more )

PS Felt Club's next sunday [11/16!]! see you there, i hope -- i can't believe the holidays are upon us. doesn't feel that way.
PPS GOBAMA!

spot-1-thumb<------ © me (for golf canada)

1. my cat will not let me sleep at night. during the day, ok. naptime for all. but at night, no no no.
i feel so tired these last few months and i know part of it is because of this (though usually he's ok) but i think part of it is also because during the day, ALL he does is sleep, and it just looks so comfortable. so i sort of always want to sleep.

2. arthur lee died. i loved love.

3. as you know if you saw my myspace bulletin, i am on a stupid movie kick (i.e. the benchwarmers, which i kind of loved) but that was all brought to a close when i saw anchorman last night.
(two copies at the library! why? because it takes place in san diego?)
anyway, who knew i could find comedy so unfunny?

please take a look at my favorite san diego rental spot: http://www.citizen-video.com/
and recommend any must-sees that are available there.
thank you!

strangers

i woke up this morning after a very long nights sleep (i've been feeling under the weather all week, majorly overworked i think) and our kitchen was flooded. it flooded last week too, but it was cause the dishwasher hose came unplugged. this time it was because, after we went grocery shopping last night, the refridgerator BROKE and all the ice and frozen food and everything melted. when i opened the door, it was like a waterfall. lately, i have some bad luck.

i just typed bad lunch.

the good news is that i got to do an illustration for the stranger in seattle of one of my all time favorite bands, digable planets:

i rarely do portraits, it's kind of fun. the only other ones i've done were for children's musicians for a playhouse in LA + once i did a REALLY LABOR INTENSIVE illustration for punk planet of jennifer pozner for which, to this day, they have not paid me. hear that? punk planet, you suck. you're so punk, you stiff your shitty pay on illustrations. i line my birdcages with you.

anyway, that was the good news.

and the bad news is that my freaking kitchen is flooded, and the deadlines keep coming.

is anyone jumping tonight? at 4am PST???!! is it possible that 600 million people are actually doing this? i don't think so.

i added three pouches to the site just now: http://www.boygirlparty.com/shoppe/index.html

p.s. thanks to [info]cdsommer for the amazing and generous fabric give away. part of the reason why i called you the wrong name AND didn't read the directions properly is because i was emailing you while on the phone with the people at frigidaire, attempting to resolve the flood in my kitchen. foreign guy on phone + fabric swap + flood in my kitchen + emailing = i am a hellbent multi-tasker who is not always so good at multi tasking.

p.p.s. speaking of 'the stranger' (sort of) this week i saw the strangers with candy movie. i love that show, but this movie, i just did not find it funny at all. maybe it was cause the air conditioning was broken in the theater and nothing is funny when you're sweating. but seriously, couldn't they have done...more? and where the hell was orlando? why was the new kid such a weird, unfunny doppleganger?

our new apartment is really small and it's made it somewhat difficult for my work situation since i work at home full time. i haven't been able to reopen the online store yet, partially because i'm exhausted and sick of it, and definitely mostly because i can't find a lot of my supplies in all these boxes and even if i could, there's no space to work in. i used to take over our double parlor living room, i had sewing quarters and a packaging area, my button maker was always scattered on the floor. this has made me sort of turn back to the more compact form of my work which is illustration and art shows. there are aspects about this field that, just like any other, i have such serious qualms with, but for now, it's good to be focusing in this way again.

i almost feel like i'm starting over, which is such a difficult and complicated process, to get yourself off the ground as an illustrator. so much has changed since i first started illustrating. i've lost most of my eyesight. i've gained more vision.

sidebar: i need a good scanner. i just bought a new one, but i think it's not working out and we need to see other people.
how do you scanner shop? apparently i'm no good at it.
