trying to get back into the swing of things between life, work and the shop.. not much to say, i've just been working night&day like a maniac trying to catch up.

twitter says it's national oatmeal day. does such a day really exist?
or is it like 'opposite day'?

New goodies!

  • Sep. 22nd, 2009 at 9:05 AM
frequentflyersbag-bigMy brother and I were talking earlier this year about how we both always use the word "goodies", and we totally get that from our parents. Do you say 'goodies'? I didn't think so.

I added lots of NEW GOODIES to the boygirlparty shop today, including four new tote bags (such as the one pictured here) and a new chickadee necklace. Plus, the latest book I illustrated "Let's Go Outside" just came out, which is also very exciting & available in the shop.

Not much else to report besides: two weeks until the wedding! Last night I had an anxiety dream that I dropped the ring and it rolled off the balcony we're getting married on. Um. Uh-oh. How do I gravity proof my life until November?

Oh, also, here are a few recent DRAWsomes
OH AND I FINALLY FULFILLED A LIFELONG DREAM: I SAW THE B-52S PLAY A CLUB SHOW! (Not so) secretly, I am a huge b-52's fan (see also: my cover of 'Legal Tender')...I just typed this whole long thing about all the songs they played and how excited I was to finally hear "52 Girls" live, and how dancing at that show reminded me of decades of listening to them, back in the 2nd grade when my sister and I used to hop around listening to Rock Lobster and Dance this Mess Around and Butterbean (which, by the way, totally instilled this bizarre obsession with eating butterbeans when we were kids). They are still so completely awesome, and such solid musicians. I deleted the whole long thing I had typed because I don't feel I can properly express what an exciting night it was.

Anyway. Back to your regularly scheduled program

birthday give away

  • May. 21st, 2009 at 9:37 PM
Superfun raffle time! (First time i've had one!) Orders from http://shop.boygirlparty.com placed now through Friday, May 29th will be entered in a raffle to win a $25 gift certificate. Winner will be notified by Sunday, May 31st (my birthday!)
Other than that, I've just been working & trying to meet some deadlines.
I'm also reading Franny & Zooey again, which I hadn't read since high school.. Zooey's a bit of a jerk. Who calls their mother 'Fatty'? Jerk.

and I became a Goodreads Author today & claimed my published illustrated projects. It's kind of crazy to see them all lined up like that! Which reminds me, if anyone gets a chance to write a review of anything of mine you own - especially of any of my sadly un-reviewed Chronicle Books stationery - on Amazon or Goodreads, please do! I'd be so happy to see them reviewed!

elephant-ness

hey-a. just added these to shop & thought i'd share:

elephRC6

other than that, not much going on over here. i hit the fabric district in LA yesterday with my mom & ended up buying something like 90 yards of fabric for various needs (butter yellow + vibrant robin's egg blue for you colorphiles out there). now we just have to sew them up in tangible things like tablecloths and napkins.

planning to get married feels a bit like we're making costumes, directing, and writing a high school play for crappy first time actors who happen to be ourselves. 4 months to go, wacky.

busy week.

  • Apr. 30th, 2009 at 1:27 PM
man, these last couple days have been insanely busy.

me and my broken shoulder have been drawing and designing nonstop. i think being unable to do anything for a month basically built up all these creative ideas and by the time i was able to start drawing again, i was unstoppable!

i spent the past 6 weeks basically making stuff for the boygirlparty shop -- here are a couple previews of all the new-ness to be seen there:

here too )

busy week, see?
i can't paint yet and i still can't drive, so we'll see what else happens before i'm well and in the throes of deadlines and freelance once more. can't say i'm looking forward to life as normal, it's been nice to take a break from work for other people, to draw for fun, and to get BORED -- man, these last few years, i've had too much to do, no time to get bored. boredom is inspiring! i digress.

also, hey, i know a lot of people don't use livejournal anymore, so thanks for still reading / commenting / being here. i actually like livejournal a lot, and having an archive that dates so far back (but if you think this is old, i've got a diaryland account from 2000....)

birthday card

1. i broke my shoulder a few days ago. i was skiing, it was unremarkable, and now i am in a lot of pain and have pretty much no use of my drawing arm

2. before i broke my arm i updated the shop with new notecards, magnets and paintings/artwork - and now that i've broken it, it's all i have to pay the bills until i heal, which is frustrating. i am not used to having so many eggs in one basket. what a weird phrase. cause who's walking around carrying eggs in a basket besides the easter bunny?

3. i had a realization that i've become sorta steve keene-ish -- not in style, and clearly not in popularity- i feel so unknown! but like, in art for the people-ness, i guess, and doing what i do because it's fun and offbeat. especially the minis.

CK: Do you feel that because you sell your paintings for so little, that you haven’t been taken as seriously by the art world as you would have been had you made some giant paintings that cost thousands of dollars?

SK: Um, I don’t know what to say about that.

Look closely...
ok, if you've been on my flickr or twitter, then you already know the hilarity of it all.

but onto some updates on my shop and stuff:
i've introduced a couple new shipping methods to my shop this holiday
season: the options for Express Mail (overnight) and Priority Mail (2-3 day) shipping in the US, and First class air mail *insured* for orders headed abroad.

Please check the delivery chart below so your order has its best chance of arriving in time for gift-giving...

PS Come shop locally with me here in San Diego at Holiday Hit List on Sunday, December 7th! but are any of you local? i don't know.

oh, hey! happy t-day, by the way.
GO VEG!

don't stand so close to me

last night i had a weird dream about a craft show, it mostly involved getting to the venue moments before the show began, but sitting on my table with some friends (including camilla who i've never met in person!) and talking about life, until one of the craft show organizers got so annoyed with us that they just came around and picked up the table, with four or five people sitting on it (including me!) and moved us to the humiliating center of the room.

then jenny gave me an award for "the biggest eyesore of a booth ever" and asked me never to come back.
then, just like the last craft show i did, my display broke and all my stuff went flying.

then, some french people and i had to give a gift to a fellow crafter for their birthday, and they insisted it be a wilted piece of lettuce, which i didn't think made a proper present but was for some reason unable to express myself.

felt club is nov 16th -- i pray it doesn't go down like this.
